~Your child will be bringing their Homework duotang home each night. They will bring a book home each night to read to an adult. Please sign the homework page each night. Any notices will be sent home in the front pouch as well. ~ Each week, students will be learning five new sight words. Please have your child study these words. They should recognize the sight words without hesitation. ~ Reading Share will also become part of our regular routine. Students will bring a book home to read for several days. After practicing with the book at home, they will read this book to the class on their scheduled day. Literacy Tips: In class, a variety of reading strategies are being modeled and then used by our students to help them improve their Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and to Expand their Vocabulary. One Strategy that we have been using is: Check for Understanding How can you help your child with this strategy at home? ~ When reading to or with your child, stop periodically and say, “Let’s see if we remember what I just read. Think about who the story was about and what happened.” Do this 2 or 3 times throughout the story. ~ You can ask your child the following questions: -Who did you just read about? -What just happened? -What do you do if you don’t remember? *These ideas and strategies are taken from The CAFE Book.
